Con Countdown: Day 2

Days till Con: 75
Items made: 2 bracelets
Displays made: 0
Money spent: $114

Today I finished off 2 Hunger Game charm bracelet orders, Katniss's hair takes forever to braid so it took me a while.

I also made a new charm bracelet. Firefly! I watched some of my fave episodes while making it, I can't wait to add it to the store. Not a huge surprise but Kaylee is my fave that I made, too cute. :)

And finally today I can mark off one of the things I need for the con off my list. I need a credit card reader, something easy to use. I tried looking up a couple of different things. ProPay, Paypal and Squareup. For me, Squareup sounds best. With Propay you pay a yearly fee plus a fee everytime you use their service. With Paypal, I'd have to change my entire account and give them a big cut of each transaction. Square is a free app for your phone that charges you a small teeny tiny fee per transaction but no gimmicks.
Only thing? I don't have a smart phone. So today I had 2 choices: buy an ipad or an ipod to use square.
I chose the ipod touch. It was only 60 bucks on ebay and I needed to upgrade my ipod anyway. The one I have is about to die, and the screen has blacked out spots all over it. Plus, it's over 7 years old.
Out with the old, in with the new fancy credit card reader/mp3 player. Yay!

Not bad today. Had a fun time looking up ipods and making new bracelets. :)

Con Countdown: Day 1 (cont.)

Days till Con: 76
Items made: 0
Displays made: 0
Money spent: $54

Today I have a Big Bang Theory charm bracelet due for the store. So I thought, why not start here?
Day 1 is Big Bang Theory day. I watched season 4 and worked all day on these little guys. 5 of each, until I realized I was running out of time and I made 4 of Raj, Howard and Sheldon.

There they are, it looks so small but it took me over 10 hours. *waves to the cuties*

I went on an ebay spending spree as well. 600 organza bags for customers to put the jewelry in, 100 bracelets, 200 stud earrings, 50 adjustable silver rings and 4 blocks of pottery colored sculpey. Phew, I'm tired. Sitting and spending takes a lot of work out of you. ;)

I finished cooking the charms and am putting them away. No painting or glazing yet. My house is a giant ball of fur, I have a cat who gets into everything. I'm going to wait until I'm closer to the con to start glazing so the fur doesn't stick to everything I make. I hope that's the right decision, eep!

Day 1 not too shabby. I will have 3 bracelets ready for the con today, and tons of supplies are coming. Go me for Day 1 focus! :)

Con Countdown: Day 1

I've decided on conquering a new project. This one is a huge sucker, one with many parts. I'm anxious to give it a go, and I hope I actually make it the entire project.

Ready?

I have signed up for Fandomfest '12 in Louisville KY. First day is June 29th, which means in 76 days I have to be ready. I've never done a convention. I don't have a single thing made or a display or pretty much anything ready.

So starting today I am blogging. Every day I will tell about my day. What I've crafted, built, bought for the con, etc. And I'm hoping in the end it will all come together and I will have an amazing con experience.

Let's start with a list of things I need before the con. Extra supplies, displays, etc.
Here we go:
- a huge banner for the table showing everyone "hey look I'm awesome check out my table"
- a tablecloth, I'm thinking pink but since it's a horror con I might change that
- some way to accept credit cards. I don't have a smart phone, but I might have to get one just for the con
- extra necklaces, earrings, ring blanks, bracelets, and paper goods. I'm going to buy at least 2 packs of everything. I normally get 35 bracelets on ebay, so I'll up it to 70. Probably more as I go on
- business cards. New pretty ones. The ones I have are generic and really boring
- tons more clay. I have a lot from Thanksgiving sales, but I need tons and tons of beige for characters
- displays for necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, greeting cards, and my newest product lip balm
- a cheapy hotel in Louisville. My brother went to college in KY so I've been there before, I think it will help in going up there
- someone to work the table with me. For now I'm trying to push my brother into going with me since he's into horror himself. Should be fun, but he's kinda whiny about it. Who knows :p

I also made a list of goals. What I want to accomplish in time for the con. Here's my goal list:
- Make 10 of each item I already sell. At least ten. But for big items I sell I'll make much more.
- come up with some new horror items. I have written a list of ideas, I'm a huge horror geek so it won't be too hard. I want to have stuff just for the con, not sold on etsy
- Make my own displays. My dad is making a display for me, a 3-tier wooden pendant display. I am going to make a bracelet display out of a picture frame. Can't wait to try anyway. Don't know what I'm going for earring and rings yet, but I want to make my own so we'll see
- I used to make felt plushies for fun years ago, and I want to try making more. I bought some more felt and read tons of tutorials. I wanna make geeky plush awesomeness! :)

So now that I've explained what I want to accomplish, and what I'll be doing, here we go. Next post is when I start!

Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it. O_O

Portal Lovin'

So if you haven't noticed from my store happenings, I'm in a huge Portal kick right now. Portal and Portal 2 are in my top 5 fave games, and with the new one coming out I am on a role with ideas.

And apparently, customers are in the lovin' mood too. Yay! I've been so busy with orders for Portal, I've barely had time to breathe...and it's pretty awesome.

Yesterday I made over 18 Portal GlaDOs eye/cores, here's the giant collection all together:Hmm...doesn't look so giant. Maybe I have a monster hand so you can't tell there are so many. There are lots I tell ya, lots! *cough*

Anyway...
Now that I have played and massacred Portal 2, I'm ready to work on more Portal 2 stuff. Notice the potato I added last week? Had to do it, no brainer.
Today I'm going to work on some more turrets, and try to work on a Wheatley. I <3 him.

If you have any cool ideas for either game I'd love to hear them. Yay Portal!

Back!

Whew, what a week and a half...
First I went on a road trip to North Carolina and Tennessee, I had a blast. But then I get home, and I become sick as a dog. Yuck...
But now, I'm back! And I have a ton of new ideas in my brain to spill out onto you.

But since I haven't actually made it yet, and I intend to blog at least once a week, my post today will be my workspace. Woo!

So here it is ladies and gents. The grand space of work. I have a powerpuff girl's cup that holds all my pens and stuff. I have random paint, glue, and glitter there too.
Oh look in the corner! Is that baby oil? Oh my...
I've got some clay creations by the fat cat, mostly Doctor Who stuff.
The wooden square is my molding station. Sounds fancy, but really when I'm done molding and it's ready to be baked I smack it on the slab to make sure it doesn't stick.
And yes, Glee is on the tv in the back. But, listen up, this is cooler than a high school musical show. My boyfriend hooked up an old computer to the tv. So it's not cable on that tv, it's my Netflix Watch Instantly tv! GASP. I know I know, it's hard for some to grasp, but it's ahhhhmazing. Yesterday I watched Glee, Cheers, Monk, Wings, and an episode of Invader Zim. All while being crafty. Yay for geek fun!
Oh and my Buffy The Vampire Slayer book case is next to that. *hides*
Now, as you might see, my giant fat cat ball of fur has placed himself in the middle of my desk. His name is Gizmo and he likes to be in the middle of everything all the time. Cute, but not cute when handling fur-magnet clay. I can't shoo him away though...look at him...

So that's my desk. It's cluttered, but an organized clutter. Maybe sometime I'll show you the whole room and not just the cluttery desk of doom. This room is my crafty room slash library. Gasp again! I have 5 bookcases in here full of geeky awesome, and a little girly stuff too.

I'm always curious to see other people's desks and see how they operate. Now you saw mine. Cluttery, furry, netflixy, awesomey!

Contest Entry for Momsbasement.org

So being new to etsy, I joined a team. My first one, woo hoo! And which one may you ask?
Mom's Basement.
It's an inviting group of over 200 geeks like myself, talking and crafting all things geek.
And this month, they are having a contest. Ooohhh....
The contest? Take Mom's Basement mascot Melvin (as seen in the header of their site here) and craft him the way you know how.
And now...here it comes...I made a clay Melvin! He's tiny, and actually semi-cute:
What do you think? The glasses do it for me. He's about the size of a quarter, and he's all pudgy and flannel-ey.

The contest ends April 1st. Wish me and my Melvin Jr. luck!
